Creativity Is Key: Innovative Leaflet Design (Part 1)

When using advertisement material to promote your business, you want it to be eye-catching, attention-grabbing and different from the rest.

Leaflet design, if done right, can provide your company with an efficient way to attract your consumer and keep their attention through the art of high quality design. The aesthetic of your leaflet can make or break your entire brand – giving the consumer eye only 2-3 seconds to decide to read it or throw it away!

In order to tempt the consumer to actually read your leaflet, a combination of interesting content and impeccable design can intrigue and sell to an originally neutral perspective. Be creative and think outside of the box, and as with most things – the more unique, the better!

Here are a few of the most innovative and creative leaflet designs to give you a little design inspiration.

Lake Shore, Bristol

With a Pop-Art and bespoke aesthetic, Lake Shore have produced an inspirational multi-piece leaflet package that demonstrates a strong use of type, colour and an obvious design identity. Typefaces are Pop-Art inspired, and dye-cut block fonts give a unique aesthetic depending on under layer placement. The leaflet is mainly created through overlays, screen print and fresh contemporary pattern with ‘benday dot’ printed processes to create a completely unique and vivid aesthetic and palette.

Nottingham Trent University, Art & Design Handbook

Nottingham University are renowned for their fresh and energetic design palette, and all leaflet and prospectus styles follow a similar design. With the use of various paper weights and coloured pages, they create a book that most people immediately want to grab and have a nosey through! The bold black cover offers an immediately eye-catching and unusual aesthetic, complemented with neon and bright mix-match type completes the strong design look.

Nick Cave

Nick Cave, a contemporary textile and performance artist completed a residency with the Fosdick-Nelson Gallery where a student produced this three piece brochure and direct mail pieces to promote his works. Each page is delicately printed with complementary elements of Cave’s work and textile details including photographic beading and pattern prints. The front page details are printed with a one colour spot halftone in neutral grey, which accentuates the colours displayed on inside pages and the vividness of Cave’s textile works. A simplistic yet beautifully put together leaflet that would not only draw the eye in but keep it until the very last page.
